ELFT has transformed its community and Adult Mental Health Services to provide increased opportunities for early assessment and interventions for people who typically present within primary care. We are developing a whole system response to mental and emotional distress; breaking down the traditional barriers between primary and secondary care. The post holder will work into the Isle of Dogs Neighborhood Mental Health team and Primary Care Network

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will take responsibility for an area of Neighborhood services and Primary Care Networks for the provision of a high-quality service for people with mental health difficulties. The role will involve working closely with existing services as well as developing links with other relevant community services. The post holder will carry a caseload, and provide structured guidance, supervision and advice to wider neighborhood team including other mental health staff, GP’s, and voluntary sector staff in relation to their working practice with this patient group. They will promote awareness and best practice concerning adults with mild to moderate mental health difficulties as well as patients with severe mental illness, actively supporting positive attitudes and a consistent approach towards assessment and treatment of this patient group.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To Provide assessment and intervention. 

The post-holder will provide structured guidance, supervision and advice to other mental health staff, GP’s and voluntary sector staff in relation to their working practice with this patient group

Promote awareness and best practice concerning adults presenting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties as well as patients with severe mental illness.

Actively supporting positive attitudes and a consistent approach towards assessment and treatment of this patient group.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • • Experience of autonomous caseload management, including assessment, intervention planning and evaluation
  • • Experience of assessment and intervention planning for adults with mental health conditions
  • • Understanding of comorbidities that may affect mental health
  • • Experience of being involved in a service or quality improvement project
  • • Experience of providing training/education and presentations
  • • Documented evidence of CPD
  • • Demonstrable experience of having received and engaged with clinical supervision
  • Desirable criteria

  • • Experience of supervising staff and/or students
  • Education/ Qualification/ Training

    Essential criteria

  • • Registered Nurse/Allied Health Professional
  • • Substantial post-registration experience in mental health in community settings
  • Desirable criteria

  • • Short specialist courses relating to adult mental health
  • • Post-graduate diploma level equivalent training in a relevant area
  • • Student Educator Training
  • Knowledge and Skills

    Essential criteria

  • • Ability work autonomously, and manage a complex caseload with minimal supervision
  • • Ability to communicate with a wide range of professionals
  • • Ability to effectively prioritize workload
  • • Ability to collect biopsychosocial information from a variety of sources and independently make clinical judgments and create care plans based on the analysis of the information
  • • Understanding of biopsychosocial issues that can impact the health and wellbeing of people
  • • Effective written, oral and communication skills
  • • Knowledge of specific legislation and policies pertinent to adult mental health
  • • Understanding of team dynamics and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • • Knowledge of word-processing, powerpoint and spreadsheet applications, and electronic record-keeping systems
